What is Leadership Salkehatchie?

Leadership Salkehatchie provides participants with an opportunity to enhance their leadership skills while becoming aware of and involved with community dynamics and issues facing the Salkehatchie region. With a  diverse cohort, the program cultivates a comprehensive perspective, essential for understanding the increasingly complex challenges and opportunities facing the region.

The Program

The Leadership Salkehatchie program provides comprehensive training designed to empower participants and cultivate regional progress.

  • Format and Goal: The program includes workshops led by subject matter experts, specifically designed to equip participants with  the knowledge and essential skills needed to cultivate progress within our region.

  • Regional Focus: It highlights the strengths of the Salkehatchie region while thoroughly exploring the obstacles facing small-town America.

  • Key Program Topics: The curriculum covers a broad range of vital subjects, including:

    • Economic Development

    • Education

    • The Judicial System

    • Local Government

    • Legislative Advocacy

    • Leadership Skills

    • Diversity

  • Meeting Schedule: Sessions are held  bimonthly in various locations throughout the Salkehatchie region, as well as on the University of South Carolina’s Columbia campus.

How do I become a participant?

The selection process for Leadership Salkehatchie is highly competitive. It begins with nominations by leaders in regional business, industry, and education. An application committee then evaluates the finalists, and all accepted individuals are awarded a full scholarship to cover their program expenses.

Participant Requirements

To be considered for Leadership Salkehatchie, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Be nominated for the program.

  • Reside or be employed in one of the six Salkehatchie region counties: Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Colleton, Hampton, or Jasper.

  • Demonstrate a clear interest in community leadership.

  • Aspire to or currently occupy a professional leadership position.
