Advisement and Registration

All Lancers must meet with an Academic Advisor before registering for classes.

Who is my Academic Advisor?

  • Step 1: Log in to my.sc.edu 
  • Step 2: Click Student tab and then Student Profile tab
  • Step 3: Find and click on your academic advisor’s name under Advisors
  • Step 4: Send your academic advisor an email to schedule an advising appointment

Are you an entering new freshman, transfer, or readmit student? Don’t see your advisor? Email us at uscladvs@mailbox.sc.edu.

If you are planning to progress into Upper Division, you will be receiving advising information during your Upper Division Orientation.

Preparing for BSN Advisement

  •  Log in Using computer for the zoom meeting (please no cell phones)
  • Log in to Self-Service Carolina.
  • Complete math (algebra) and Foreign Language placement prior to appointment.
  • Assure you have no holds on your record/account.
  • Log into blackboard and look under organization to make sure you are on the lower division BSN blackboard organization.  If you do not see this listed, please email Ms. Kelana Lockhart at klock@mailbox.sc.edu and request she add you prior to your appointment.
  • Review BSN curriculum worksheet and come prepared list of desired classes for both summer and fall.
  • Review USC CON undergraduate and Handbook signature form. Please go to the USC Lancaster Lower division blackboard site listed in organizations. Click on documents, then USC CON undergraduate handbook. You will find links to the handbook as well as the handbook signature form.  Please upload your signed form prior to your advising appt. 
  • Submit completed parallel plan. Should be completed during Nurs 112. Please go to the USC Lancaster Lower division blackboard site listed in organizations. Click on documents, parallel plan assignment to upload your completed parallel plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

In order to access self-service, you must set up your new student USC account. To do this, you will need your VIP ID (found in your acceptance letter).

IMPORTANT: Beginning Oct. 17 USC will no longer offer the phone call and text message authentication options. Users are encouraged to use DUO mobile app or visit our knowledge base article for more authentication options.

Follow the steps below to learn how to search for classes using self-service. For help building your schedule, use this course scheduling worksheet.

  • Log in to sc.edu.
  • Click on the Student tab at the top of the screen.
  • Click on the Registration box (3rd box from left on top row).
  • Click on Register for Classes (on the left-hand side, middle).
  • A new page will load. Select the semester for which you are registering for courses.
  • Under the Find Classes tab (the first page you see once semester has been selected)
    • Select Campus (USC Lancaster)
    • Select Subject (choose from drop down, or type in subject i.e. MUSC, MUED)
    • Enter the Course Number
  • If you would like, click on advanced search to select specific days, types of classes, to look for open sections only, etc. 
  • Click Search.
  • Review list of class options - it will tell you if there are conflicts with your current schedule and seat availability. Click on the underlined course title to view more details by clicking on the description/attributes/restrictions tabs.

Holds on your account may prevent you from registering for classes or even making changes to your schedule. To check for holds on your account, follow the steps below or view this video.

  • Log in to sc.edu.
  • Click on the Student tab at the top of the screen.
  • Click on the Registration box (3rd box from left on top row).
  • Click on Registration Notices and Holds.
  • Select the semester for which you are viewing holds.
  • The next page will show your registration status including holds and your time ticket for registering.

I have a hold, now what? Below is information about common holds.

Academic Coaching: Students with a total institutional GPA that is less than a 2.0 are required to meet with an academic coach. To make an appointment, go to Academic Coaching - USC Lancaster | University of South Carolina

Citizenship: Complete your Citizenship Verification form and send it to uscladms@mailbox.sc.edu along with documentation.

Immunization: Submit a copy of your immunization records to uscladms@mailbox.sc.edu with completed form.

Residency: Submit your SC Residency Certification Form in Self-Service under the Admissions tab. For more information about Residency, visit Establishing South Carolina Residency - My USC Lancaster | University of South Carolina.

Transcripts: Submit all transcripts from previously attended institutions to uscladms@mailbox.sc.edu. For more information about submitting transcripts, visit Transcripts - University Registrar | University of South Carolina.

IMPORTANT: All USCL students must be advised before registering for classes.

Once you are advised, there are two ways to register for classes:

  • Register using self-service
  • Register using CRN (quick add)

Register for Classes Using the CRN (Quick Add)

Follow the steps below or view the Video Instructions to learn how to register for classes using CRNs.

  • Log into sc.edu.
  • Click on the Student tab at the top of the screen.
  • Click on the Registration box (3rd box from left on top row).
  • Click on Register for Classes (on the left-hand side, middle).
  • A new page will load. Select the semester for which you are registering for courses.
  • Select the Enter CRN’s tab (under Register for Classes, next to Find Classes)
  • Enter the CRN (5-digit number) in the box.
  • Choose Add to Summary
  • In the lower half window on the right, the added course listed will appear as pending.
  • Verify this is the correct class and then click the Submit button (bottom right corner).
  • Double check to make sure the course has been added to your schedule. The status will go from “pending” to “registered” and highlighted green).

Register for Class via Self-Service

Dropping a course can have financial and academic consequences. Before you drop a course, watch this video and meet with the following people/offices:

  • Academic Advisor
  • Financial Aid
  • Business Office

Drop a Class

Follow the steps below or view the video to learn how to drop a course.

  • Log into sc.edu.
  • Click on the Student tab at the top of the screen.
  • Click on the Registration box (3rd box from left on top row).
  • Click on Register for Classes (on the left-hand side, middle).
  • A new page will load. Select the semester for which you are dropping a course.
  • In the lower half window on the right, your courses will be listed.
  • Click on the dropdown menu next to the course you want to drop. Select Drop/Withdraw.
  • Click Submit.

 

In order to change your major, please submit the online form. If there is a hold on your account the change of major will not be processed.

Students on academic probation are required to attend an academic coaching session. These sessions are meant to establish a plan for success. We will discuss your strengths, set goals, and review resources. Once the session is completed, the registration hold will be lifted on your account. Make your academic coaching appointment today!

USCL offers the First Day Complete (FDC) textbook program through our campus store, Barnes & Noble. Students are automatically enrolled* in FDC and textbooks charges are added to their bill at the rate of $25 per credit hour. Charges can be paid along with tuition and fees or by using financial aid. Students participating in the program should not purchase required materials or pay outside sources for access to their materials. 

Students can opt-out of the program and purchase their textbooks individually from the Barnes & Noble store.

You can pay online through Self Service Carolina or in USC Lancaster Business Office. Business Office hours are 8:30 am - 5:00 pm Monday – Friday. The Business Office only accepts cash, checks and money orders. Credit card payments are only accepted through the online payment portal. Visit the Business Office for more information.
