Honors Domestic Study Away
From research at the South Carolina coast to walking the halls of Congress and everything in between, the Honors College has incredible options for our students to study away without even leaving the country.
The Honors College actively encourages students to enrich their educational experience by studying away from campus. These exciting opportunities include academic year and summer semester programs offered by the Honors College and academic departments.
Students may fulfill the BTC requirement through the successful completion of an approved study away course. “Study away” includes both domestic and international (or “study abroad”) opportunities. A student must receive course credit for the study away activity in order to fulfill the Honors BTC requirement.
Nine hours of approved non-Honors departmental BTC coursework can fulfill Honors College requirements – the BTC requirement and up to 2 Honors electives.

Travel to exciting locations around the world with our Honors international study away options. These shorter Maymester and early Summer courses fulfill our Beyond the Classroom requirement, and you’ll visit and learn in places like Japan, South Africa, France, Iceland and more!
The Honors College has scholarships available specifically to help cover some of the costs associated with study away courses and programs for our students.
