Why did you choose USC Rice School of Law?
As a resident of South Carolina and a USC alumni, I was originally drawn to move out of state for law school and experience something outside of where I had called home. However, after touring for the first time (because I had never actually been in the building until after I graduated from undergrad), I realized that while the building was on campus and in SC, the experiences, people, and wealth of knowledge in the school far expanded the walls of this state. USC School of Law is truly made up of a melting pot of people who bring all kinds of intellect and opinions, which I was looking for as I was hoping to challenge myself in new ways!
What advice would you give a first-year law student?
The best advice I would give a 1L is to not let yourself sink into the quicksand of comparison. Every student and peer of yours is coming from a different path in life that has gotten them here, and that path worked for them! But so did yours! Be open to making changes to better suit your study habits and needs, but your study plans are meant to help you be successful, tailor them to you!
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
I am most proud of my work at the 11th Circuit Solicitor’s Office in Lexington County, SC over the summer! I was able to conduct research on criminal procedure and evidence issues that directly impacted upcoming cases on the trial docket. Specifically, my research on the admissibility of autopsy photos allowed the Solicitor team to successfully admit pictures of a victim as evidence at trial. The jury entered a guilty verdict. It was incredibly impactful to see how my research and work could directly affect the legal system.
