Joseph F. Rice School of Law

Catherine Willm

Why did you choose USC Rice School of Law?

I chose USC Rice because of its alumni network, national recognition in Mock Trial and trial advocacy, and reputation within the South Carolina bar. As a Columbia native wanting to practice in South Carolina, USC Rice was my first choice.

What advice would you give a first-year law student?

Find what works for you! Everyone is different in terms of study methods or extracurricular involvement or what kind of law they end up wanting to practice, and the only way to figure it out is to try things until they stick rather than copying those around you. Block out the noise, do the work, stay curious, and you’ll do great!

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

My biggest accomplishment has been receiving a CALI Excellence for the Future award in the fall semester, a certificate awarded to the student who achieves the highest grade in a course in their section. Receiving a CALI surpassed all expectations I had for myself going into 1L fall, and showed me that if I kept working hard, I could achieve anything.
