Civil Rights and Title IX Training
As part of our commitment to creating an inclusive campus and workplace, we have established the courses below to help the university community succeed in their personal, academic, and professional lives.
The University of South Carolina is committed to providing an environment free from discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct and related retaliation.
This commitment helps the university serve its primary mission and comply with requirements set forth by civil rights laws.
Our goal is to also educate USC employees on those requirements to make USC a campus where everyone can feel safer and thrive.
Due to their elevated roles at the university, all supervisors, human resources professionals and HR contacts must complete the training no later than Nov. 22.
You can register for a training by visiting the Office of Civil Rights and Title IX Training and Professional Development calendar.
Mandatory Sexual Assault Prevention Training
It is required at the University of South Carolina for all incoming students (first time freshmen and transfers) to complete online modules for sexual assault prevention. This online sexual assault prevention education course presents realistic and interactive skill-building scenarios. New undergraduate students at the Columbia campus under the age of 23 are required to complete the SAPU and Alcohol Edu courses. Within their first semester, students will receive notice of the course in their campus email as well as instructions on how to access and complete the training.
U101 Presentations
Students may receive harassment, discrimination and sexual misconduct prevention training through University 101 upon request by their U101 instructor.
Mandatory Harassment and Discrimination Prevention Training
The Civil Rights and Title IX offers a mandatory Harassment and Discrimination Prevention Training that is required at the University of South Carolina for all university employees system wide. It covers the university policies, laws and procedures that address unlawful discrimination and harassment. Within the first 60 days of employment, new employees will receive a link via email to access online training.
The University also offers optional, recommended trainings for Clery and Diversity and Inclusion.
University employees who serve as investigators, decision makers, or appeals officers have completed one or more of the following trainings in accordance with the requirements set by the department of education.
