Strengthen Your Teaching and Elevate Student Success
This three-week, fully online course requires less than 5 hours to complete and helps you enhance your teaching practices using evidence-based strategies and tools. You’ll learn how to:
- Design effective, inclusive courses
- Communicate expectations clearly
- Create engaging and supportive learning environments
Who Can Participate?
Faculty, staff, and graduate teaching assistants at USC Columbia, the Schools of Medicine, and Palmetto College.
Participants may either:
- Join a facilitated cohort guided by the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE), or
- Request individual enrollment to complete the course at their own pace.
Those who complete all requirements will receive a certificate of completion and a letter of commendation.

Course Format and Highlights
The course is delivered in Blackboard with short videos, practical guidance, knowledge checks, brief quizzes, and reflective discussions. It helps educators apply research-based practices aligned with USC’s Core Principles of Quality Teaching. Specifically, the curriculum draws on High-Impact Design for Online Courses (HIDOC), Student Experience Project (SEP), and Critical Teaching Behaviors (CTB) to support continuous teaching growth.
