USC Sumter offers a variety of youth programming throughout the summer. These camps
provide an opportunity for children to explore and discover new areas of interest.
Summer Camps
Mad About Science Camp is geared toward children aged 9-14. The fee is $80 per student
and will be held June 29 – July 3, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. and will once again be led by
Dr. Dan “The Science Man” Kiernan. Students will be introduced to STEM topics including
physics, engineering, biology, and chemistry in fun and interactive ways. Campers
will conduct scientific experiments and explore firsthand the environment in which
we live.
The Youth in Blue Summer Camp will be June 15 – 19, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and is $100
per camper. Children ages 9-14 will enjoy a week of exploring the world of criminal
justice. They will learn about tactical operations, SWAT, aviation, K9 programs, forensics,
and more! This camp is co-hosted by Sumter Sheriff’s Office, City of Sumter Police
Department, and South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
Art Camp is $125 per student and appropriate for middle school students entering grades
5 – 8. It will run June 15 – 19, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. During the week, students will explore
their creative passions through a variety of art mediums. Each day will include hands-on
workshops and collaborative projects that help campers develop their artistic voices
and bring their creative visions to life. The camp is led by USC Sumter faculty member,
Rene Thompson.
Esports Camp will be led by USC Sumter’s Head Esports Coach, Kris Weissmann. Campers
will experience what it is like to be a part of a college esports program. Just like
varsity esports players, students will learn how to study gameplay, tactics, strategies,
live streaming, team cooperation, communication and more. Fee is $100. At the time
of publishing the dates for this camp have not been confirmed.
