Notable Events
Our events are always evolving to best suit the needs and wants of our ever-growing alumni family. Some occasions are one-time events, where others have continuously proven themselves to be favorite annual traditions.
Each year, the School of Medicine Columbia presents a number of prestigious awards to our most dedicated alumni and friends who have demonstrated outstanding achievements in their field or service to the school. Please join us for an evening reception to honor the 2023 Alumni and Dean’s Distinguished Service Award recipients on Thursday, Oct. 12.
A new addition to the fall 2023 calendar, this jam-packed weekend has a little bit of everything! Celebrating alumni, cheering on the Gamecocks football team, connecting with students... build your perfect weekend in Columbia!

Each year, we create customized reunion gatherings for all alumni from both our MD and graduate programs. In 2024, both the MD and PA reunion events will take place during our Famously Hot Alumni Reunion Weekend May 17-19, 2024. We will be celebrating the MD classes of 1984, 1989, 1994, 1999, 2004, 2009, 2014 and 2019, and the inaugural reunion of the Physician Assistant program.

The Office of Advancement's Evening of Gratitude reception recognizes the SOMC's annual Dean’s Circle Members. The Dean’s Circle includes individuals, corporations, foundations and other organizations that contribute $1,000 or more in any given fiscal year (July 1 – June 30). Opportunities for Engagement
Alumni involvement extends far beyond event attendance and financial support. Some of the most meaningful ways our alumni can engage with us is through volunteerism, mentorship and advocacy. We’d love to partner with you to purposely connect your passions and interests with the many engagement opportunities we have available, so you can better impact the School of Medicine Columbia simply with your time.
Our Alumni Association Board is one of the most prominent ways to get involved and serve as the voice for the alumni family. With a low time commitment and virtual meeting offerings, these leadership positions fit the busiest of lifestyles and still accommodate those living outside of South Carolina.
If we know anything, it's that our alumni are passionate about helping our students thrive. We place strong emphasis on not only enhancing the student experience, but also in creating alumni/student programs that serve as the backbone for building meaningful connections so that our students can advance in their education with confidence and knowledge.
SOMC alumni and students are encouraged to come together and make an impact in our
local communities by volunteering at our quarterly service projects.

Social Media has made it so much easier for our alumni to connect with our office and each other. Our Alumni Facebook group is a private, graduate-only platform where you can get the latest news from our team and connect with your fellow alumni.
