Centers and Institutes

Our centers and institutes are just one way we're working to advance medical education and improve patient care in our state.

Brain Health Network

As South Carolina’s flagship university, we are spearheading an unprecedented new opportunity to vastly improve care for South Carolinians experiencing symptoms related to memory and cognitive decline.

Cardiovascular Translational Research Center

This center has been established to promote integrated research into the pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease.

Center for Disability Resources

Many people in South Carolina are affected by intellectual, developmental and related disabilities. We work hard to address these issues, find solutions and advance research to help these people and their families.

Clinical Skills Center

The Clinical Skills Center was established in 2014 to teach, assess, and improve the communication and clinical skills of future health care professionals.

Institute for Cardiovascular Disease Research

As one of five new research institutes funded by the VP of Research on main campus, the Institute for Cardiovascular Disease Research seeks to better understand how chronic, unpredictable stress—the kind we experience in modern everyday life—impacts various areas of the body, causing inflammation and high blood pressure that leads to cardiovascular disease.

NIH Center for Complementary and Integrative Medicine

Not all diseases can be treated with traditional medicine. We focus on how plant-derived products can help improve health outcomes.

NIH Center for Dietary Supplements and Inflammation

This center tests the effect of dietary supplements on autoimmune disorders. We use a natural product library to discover new drugs to treat inflammation.

Research Center for Transforming Health

Our center is changing the way we think about research. Since launching in 2017, we have been dedicated to conducting research that can be directly applied to improve patient care.

South Carolina Center for Rural and Primary Healthcare

We work with programs to train, recruit and retain primary care physicians in South Carolina’s rural and underserved areas.

South Carolina HIV Clinical Training Center

The center provides training, education, consultation and clinical decision support to health care professionals and staff.

Simulation and Interactive Learning Center

The center is a joint medical academic partnership in simulation between the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Columbia and the Columbia VA Health Care System.

Transnational Alliance for Genetic Counseling

TAGC is a partnership of genetic counselor educators from eighteen countries. TAGC connects the global counseling community and enhances international communication and collaboration.

Ultrasound Institute

As a leader in our field, we work to create curriculum for medical students, host trainings, hold conferences and author text books. We also work with technology leaders to test new equipment and inform the product development process.
